The children of the 80’s and 90’s dreamed to be rock stars. From David Lee Roth to Kurt Cobain, the rock star lifestyle gleams attractively with its fancy cars, fame, jewellery and popularity. But times they are changing, and so do idols. The Phil Ivey’s of the world now hold more rock star status. Poker players are the rock stars of the 21st century.
Money – One of the main reasons people play poker is for the money. With the new poker betting rules providing ore freedom and the prize money at the WSOP it is clear that money is not a problem. Even with some of the top online players, there are at least a hundred with a net worth of over a million dollars.
Coolness factor – Living in Vegas and driving stylish cars to the $2 million tournament, not to mention the popularity when you nail a win is certainly on top of the coolness factor.
Jewellery – Ivey, Antonius and Mizzi show-off some serious bling.
The Fancy Car – It goes without saying that with the money comes the cars.
The TV Time – make a final table at the World Series of Poker and you’ll get your face seen by millions of people on ESPN.
Hopefully though, you’ll avoid some of the intertwining downsides of both being a poker player and a rock star (crippling drug addictions *Vinny Vinh cough*, blowing all your money *Brad Booth cough*, or just fading into obscurity *Chris Moneymaker*).
